November-December update

 In Blog, News

We just wanted to give everyone an update on the last month at Team M.A.D.

Firstly, Thank you to the trainers who helped run the gym while Coach David and Glenn have been overseas. It has been a crazy month and everyone’s help and focus has made things much easier.

Last month Coach Glenn joined two sister schools in Hawaii for training again, he managed to get a month of training in this time. David and Glenn like to go and train with HMC and MMAD gym in Hawaii over the years. Both these gyms are like family to Glenn and David and have amazing MMA, BJJ, Kickboxing and Wrestling trainers, competitors and students. Each time we get the chance to train with these amazing gyms, we always come back with greater knowledge.

We also had Jana Jegathasan who was last years ‘Student of the Year ‘in the gym compete in his first Amateur Kickboxing match. Jana fought a more experienced opponent and just lost to a close Decision. Jana’s training and performance made apparent why he is a great role model to all the members in the gym and we are looking forward to him competing again.

So whilst Coach Glenn was away, Coach David was preparing for the World Sambo games in Russia. He had the opportunity to represent Australia in a sport similar to MMA but still relatively unknown to Australian’s. Many of the best Wrestlers and Judo players around the world competed in this tournament. David was the only fighter to score points for Team Australia with some nice takedowns, however, lost his much in the second round of the tournament. David was also provided with the opportunity to train in the St Petersburg High Performance Centre with very experienced competitors and students of Sambo. It was another example of the wrestling level at Team M.A.D.

We also had another of our fighters and ONE FC fighter Thanh Vu fly to meet Coach Glenn in Hawaii to round off of his training before his match against undefeated Korean Bantamweight Dae Hwan Kim.

David, Glenn and Thanh arrived back in Sydney at the same time and had a few days before flying to the Phillipines for Thanh’s fight.

The fight last week was one tough fight for Thanh Vu. He put on one great fight that was back and forth. Unfortunately did not come away with the win but  as always Thanh put on an amazing fight with a lot of great media reports and feedback.

One reports from ‘Fighters Only Mag’- stated ‘Australia’s Thanh Vu and South Korea’s Dae Hwan Kim put on one of the most exciting back-and-forth bouts in ONE FC’s history. Both fighters had their moments in a series of wild striking exchanges in the first round. ‘ and ‘After a rousing ovation from the fans during the interval, both combatants entered the second round with renewed purpose’. Thanh and the team took a lot away from the fight and we look forward to Thanhs next match in ONE FC.

Our next fight night is tomorrow night which will see Ali from Iran make his MMA debut in Parramatta at the Roxy. Ali is incredibly dedicated and we know that his hard work for this fight will pay off.

Whilst away we also had an item we donated to YWCA NSW. We donated a corporate training package worth $2000 so that it may be auctioned and funds raised will go to their great programs that help disadvantaged youth. We were told that at the Charity event it was a great success on auction and we look forward to working with YWCA NSW more next year.

Next week is our Christmas party and it will wrap up the year nicely. This year has been a year of taking on big challenges in the gym and we are proud of every member and competitor who has stepped up their training, competed and joined Team M.A.D. We hope to see everyone at the Christmas party as well! 🙂

We wont be closed during the Xmas and New year break. Only the major days will see us closed, eg –Xmas eve, Xmas, Boxing day, NYE and New years day. We will keep everyone updated on the holiday schedule. We also have some more big news that we will be keeping quiet for a while but cannot wait to share over the next month 😉

Thank you again to all the members, sponsors, friends and fans who make Team M.A.D strong and have supported us throughout the year.
